Up 95% in Four Days: SM Vexel's Filing Is Only an IR Notice

KBI Dongyang Steel Pipe and SM Vexel both hit the 30% daily limit on news reports, with no related company filing for either. Bioinfra was up 24% at 1:30 p.m. but closed unchanged.

Up 95% in Four Days: SM Vexel's Filing Is Only an IR Notice

Seoul — As of the Oct. 19, 2026 close, the KOSPI rose 1.76% to 5,768.01 and the KOSDAQ (Korea's tech- and small-cap-heavy market) rose 1.78% to 808.89. Two stocks closed at the 30% daily limit (상한가): KBI Dongyang Steel Pipe and SM Vexel. For both, the reason comes from news reports only, and neither company has filed anything related with DART, Korea's official disclosure system. Bioinfra has a merger filing, but its rally began six days before that filing.

SM Vexel (010580): up 95% in four sessions on satellite battery news

SM Vexel recent price and volume

SM Vexel closed at the 4,040 won limit on reports of satellite battery technology and a broad rally in battery stocks. It rose 29.9% on the 19th, with trading value of 99.6 billion won, about 22% of its roughly 449.5 billion won market cap. Against the Oct. 13 close of 2,070 won, that is a 95.2% gain in four sessions: +29.93% on the 14th, +18.16% on the 15th, a 0.79% dip on the 16th, and +29.9% on the 19th.

Vegan News reported that the company's 2,900Wh satellite battery pack passed a test. Energy Economy named satellite battery technology and an investor IR session as the day's drivers, and Money Today said battery stocks rose together after Chinese ESS makers reportedly pulled back from the U.S. market. DART carries an IR briefing notice dated Oct. 16 (receipt no. 20261016800753). That filing only announces the briefing and says nothing about the test or a satellite battery business, so the test result rests on reports alone.

After a run this large, two things matter: whether the IR session turns the test into a delivery or order, and whether trading value holds near today's level the next day. Foreigners net bought about 113,000 shares on the 15th and 125,000 on the 16th.

KBI Dongyang Steel Pipe (008970): limit-up on a SpaceX supply report, with no company filing

KBI Dongyang Steel Pipe recent price and volume

KBI Dongyang Steel Pipe closed at the 1,748 won limit on reports that it supplies steel pipe to SpaceX launch facilities. It is up 38.8% over two sessions and 35.5% over five. Trading value was 20.8 billion won, about 11% of its roughly 181.4 billion won market cap.

Citing the company, Herald Business reported that it supplied 640 tons of pipe for satellite launch facilities in April and shipped another 310 tons this month, a total of 950 tons. Several other outlets ran the same account. DART shows no filing in the past seven days, and no report gives a contract value or the share of revenue. The supply claim rests on the company's own account, and how large it is for the business is not known. The stock also rose 29.97% on Sept. 30, but the reason for that move cannot be seen in the available material.

The first thing to check is whether the company confirms contract value or revenue share in a filing; 950 tons against annual sales would show the size of the news. Foreigners net bought about 440,000 shares on the 16th, just before the jump, which makes the next session's flows worth watching too.

Bioinfra (199730): five limit-ups, then a 0% close after a 24% gain at 1:30 p.m.

Bioinfra recent price and volume

Bioinfra is rising on merger news, but its Oct. 19 close was 2,575 won, unchanged (0.0%). At 1:30 p.m. it traded at 3,195 won, up 24.08%. Why the intraday price and the close differ cannot be told from the available material. The stock was at 695 won on Oct. 7 and rose the limit every session from Oct. 8 to Oct. 15, a 270.5% gain to 2,575 won.

DART shows an Oct. 14 voluntary disclosure, a report on the board's approval of a small-scale merger (receipt no. 20261014900515); Vegan News described it as board approval of a merger with Unainfra. But the rally started on the 8th and the filing came on the 14th, so the gains from Oct. 8 to 13 are not explained by it. A shareholding report from an executive or major shareholder, Jeon Hee-cheol, was also filed on Oct. 12, and its contents are not known.

Watch for follow-up filings with the merger terms (ratio and schedule), and for whether the gap between the intraday price and the close clears on the next trading day.
