Why Korean and U.S. stocks moved, checked against filings

Tripled, then halved on day one: what really moved Brils, Winpac and LK Samyang

Of three big KOSDAQ gainers on Oct 1, only Brils, which debuted that day, had a clear reason. Winpac rose on press reports with no company filing, and no reason has surfaced for LK Samyang.

Tripled, then halved on day one: what really moved Brils, Winpac and LK Samyang

Seoul — The KOSDAQ (Korea's tech- and small-cap-heavy market) closed up 4.48% at 894.29 on Oct 1, and the KOSPI gained 1.95% to 6,971.35. Among the day's biggest gainers, only Brils (468670), which listed that day, had a clear reason. Winpac (097800) rose on reports of SK Hynix outsourcing and an HBM theme with no company filing behind it, and nothing explains the jump in LK Samyang (225190). (As of 4:30 p.m. KST)

Brils (468670): Up 60% on its first trading day

Brils recent price and volume

Brils listed on the KOSDAQ on Oct 1 and closed at 31,250 won, up 60.26%. Because it was the first day of trading, there is no earlier closing price to compare against, and the gain is measured from the reference price. The rise appears tied to the listing and expectations around its AI robotics platform. Kyeonggi Ilbo ran the headline "AI robot platform company takes off," and Newspim wrote that it was stepping up AI robot investment. Those are reports on the company's stated plans, however, and it filed no disclosures in the past seven days.

The stock swung widely during the session. Jobpost reported an intraday high of 62,100 won, and EBN said it fell 51% from that peak after tripling at one point. Reports differ on the size of the gain: Newsis put the close at up 56%, and Vegan News said the stock was up 140% from its IPO price. Trading value came to 634.5 billion won.

Winpac (097800): Third straight gain on SK Hynix outsourcing reports, with no company statement

Winpac recent price and volume

Winpac rose for a third straight day on expectations of expanded SK Hynix DRAM back-end outsourcing and an HBM theme. It gained 26.36% to close at 3,835 won, 64% above its Sept 28 close of 2,335 won. On Sept 30, widedaily reported the stock hit its 30% daily limit on news that SK Hynix had assigned DDR4 and DDR5 DRAM packaging work, and Kangil Ilbo and moneystorm.kr also cited expectations of more outsourcing. On Oct 1, Maeil Business Newspaper's market desk pointed to an HBM-theme rally.

But DART (Korea's official disclosure system) shows no filing by Winpac in the past seven days. The work assignment comes from press reports, not from Winpac or SK Hynix. Financial News the same day grouped Winpac with SemiTS, QRT, TFE and SNS Tech under a semiconductor heading. Trading value was 33.2 billion won and market capitalization 104.7 billion won.

LK Samyang (225190): No reason for the rise has surfaced

LK Samyang recent price and volume

LK Samyang rose 22.77% to close at 4,260 won, but no reason can be confirmed. No news articles appeared in the past three days, and the only DART filing in the past seven days is an officer and major shareholder securities holding report dated Sept 29. Its title shows only that it concerns holdings by an officer or major shareholder, and nothing suggests it explains the rise.

The price history is erratic. The closing price sat at 821 won through Sept 23, then showed 4,175 won on Sept 28, yet the recorded change that day is only 1.71%, so the five-day gain cannot be taken at face value. The stock fell to 3,510 won by Sept 30 before rebounding. Over Sept 28–30, foreign investors net sold about 30,000 shares while individuals bought roughly the same amount. Trading value was 11.3 billion won and market capitalization 60 billion won.
